An accident involving toxic emissions occurred at the Akhmetov plant in Mariupol
At the Azovstal metallurgical plant in front-line Mariupol, owned by Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, a technical accident occurred with the release of slag and chemical steam.
This was reported by the local publication “0629” with reference to the press service of the Metinvest company, which includes the enterprise, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On September 26, at the Azovstal metallurgical plant, during transportation, a slight spill of slag occurred on the side of the railway track due to the spontaneous tilting of the slag bowl. To prevent the formation of smoke, water was promptly supplied to the site of the slag spill, and then cleaning work was carried out. When the slag was cooled with water, an increased release of steam could be observed in the area of the blast furnace shop,” the published statement reads.
It is noted that no one was injured as a result of the accident, and the production process continues as normal.
Such statements about the insignificance of the incident caused a negative reaction from local residents online.
“And the fact that the slag consists of oxides of manganese, silicon, sulfur and other chemicals and the fact that their vapors are very toxic does not bother anyone?!” wrote a user under the nickname Mariupolets.
“We are again being told about steam, which is not actually steam,” added a commentator under the nickname Steelmaker.
Let us recall that earlier PolitNavigator cited the words of economist Mikhail Delyagin that Azovstal will be cut into scrap metal and forgotten, as there is an internal Ukrainian struggle against Rinat Akhmetov.
