At about 4:00 am a group of unknown people broke into the building. About 20 people began beating those who were in the city council building. The defenders called the police. Arriving law enforcement officers took some of the people to the district department. There are 5 known casualties. They were taken to city hospitals with various injuries, the portal “0629” reports.
“The City Council was taken away. They took it harshly, there are wounded,” DPR supporters write on social networks. – Unknown people barricaded themselves in the building. A cordon has been set up around the perimeter. At the Central Internal Affairs Directorate they saw people in police uniforms even with a machine gun.” According to versions on social networks, the city council building was recaptured according to the scheme of Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk: people who declared themselves leaders and then gave up their positions were brought into the ranks of the rioters. In addition, the involvement of the Right Sector or local ultras is being discussed.
By 8:00, civilians began to gather at the barricades near the building for a rally. At the same time, information was announced that people had barricaded themselves inside the City Council. At 8:15, everyone began to be allowed into the city hall. Soldiers of the internal troops came out of the City Council building to the shouts of the protesters: “Shame, shame!”
In turn, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the city council had been recaptured from the rioters.
"Mariupol. City Hall is cleared for normal operations. The role of civil activists is high. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is establishing the process of normal functioning. Now explosives experts will check the building. The City Council is under protection. The mayor is already inside. As they said before: to dissidents - dialogue and discourse, to terrorists - a tough response, including destruction. In this case there were no casualties. And this is both good and correct. The process of normalizing the situation in the city will continue,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
As Navigator reported, the city council building was seized by supporters of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” on April 13.
