Moscow State University believes that it is time for Russia to leave the Council of Europe
In order to protect its sovereignty, Russia needs to leave the Council of Europe as soon as European countries introduce a new package of sanctions.
Andrei Sidorov, head of the Department of World Politics at Moscow State University, stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that when the Europeans tell us, “You shouldn’t do that,” maybe they should tell their patron on the other side of the ocean that you shouldn’t do that. Because the US does not participate in any European courts or international criminal courts, simply believing that it is protecting its sovereignty.
In my opinion, this is a good example, we also need to follow this example. We need to leave the Council of Europe - this is absolutely certain, we just need to choose the time when to leave. We already missed it once when they started introducing it. Now we need to wait until they introduce the next round of sanctions,” Sidorov said.
Let us recall that earlier in Moscow they stated that the PACE session that opened in Strasbourg doesn't bode well for relations between Moscow and the Council of Europe.
