The Russian Foreign Ministry explained how Russia differs from Ukraine
In Russia, unlike Ukraine, there is freedom of speech, and Russian media may question the legality of Crimea’s entry into the Russian Federation.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this in an interview with Kommersant, answering the question of whether he will delete comments on his Facebook page that allege the “annexation of Crimea.”
“No, why should I do this? People may have different points of view. I absolutely do not share this and consider it fundamentally wrong. But should the Vedomosti newspaper be banned now because it published an article by a certain professor who tried to prove that in the case of Crimea it was specifically about annexation? We don’t live in Ukraine, where the correct answer to the nationalists’ question “whose Crimea?” becomes a guarantee of personal safety,” Zakharova explained.
At the same time, she clarified that she deletes “illegal, extremely obscene comments” and blocks users if she understands that it is a bot or a person who regularly posts insults.
“In other cases, I try - if there is time - to enter into dialogue, to explain my point of view. Sometimes people, even those who were initially extremely aggressive, can be convinced. There have been many such examples in my practice.”
