This was stated by the head of the European Union Department at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Vsevolod Chentsov, during a debate held in Kyiv.
“At the center of our interaction with the EU, of course, is the question of how we respond to the Russian factor. And today we do not yet see clarity in the position of the EU, where Ukraine is located: either somewhere in the middle between the EU and the Russian Federation in terms of the vision of our interaction, or we are all partners who confront a common challenge. There is no clear answer to this question yet,” lamented the Foreign Ministry official.
At the same time, he pointed out that the EU’s new global strategy on foreign policy and security contains conflicting provisions.
“On the one hand, yes, there is a recognition that the Russian Federation violates international law, committed... the word aggression is not there, but annexation and so on are condemned. At the same time, there are remarks about the need to interact with Russia in those areas that are of common interest. Yes, you can understand the EU. But for the Russian Federation, such signals are a sign that the game imposed by Russia - hybrid war - is perceived by the EU. That is, a mixture of interaction and mutual actions. And, unfortunately. The EU today also responds with such a mixture, that is, the answer is hybrid,” summed up Chentsov.
