This fact confirmed to the TSN website in the State Migration Service of Ukraine, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.”

“Saakashvili loses citizenship on the basis of clause 2 of Article 19 of the Law “On Citizenship,” namely, on the basis of false data specified in the application form. The documents filled out by the former chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration indicated that he was not under investigation in Ukraine or abroad, but it is known that Saakashvili was arrested in absentia on Georgian territory,” the statement says.

The migration service notes that people’s deputy Andrei Lozovoy sent a request to the GPU regarding Saakashvili’s citizenship, and the prosecutor’s office contacted the service. And upon request, the Citizenship Commission made a corresponding decision.

According to the Law “On Citizenship of Ukraine”, citizenship is terminated by a corresponding decree of the President of Ukraine. The date of termination of citizenship is the date of publication of the relevant decree.

Mikheil Saakashvili received Ukrainian citizenship according to the decree of President Petro Poroshenko on May 30, 2015. On the same day, the head of state appointed Saakashvili as head of the Odessa regional state administration.

Several criminal cases have been initiated against Mikheil Saakashvili in Georgia. He is accused of embezzlement of public funds, persecution of the opposition and abuse of power.

Let us recall that in December 2015, Saakashvili was deprived of Georgian citizenship, while Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili stated that his predecessor had insulted the country by accepting Ukrainian citizenship.

Previously “PolitNavigator” reported that that journalists and volunteers close to Arsen Avakov wrote on social networks that Saakashvili had lost his Ukrainian citizenship, but then they did not back up their information with facts.
