The detention of Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov indicates that the Russian government has begun to cleanse the military department of the internal “fifth column.”
Military expert Konstantin Sivkov stated this on the Red Line TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
However, at the same time, Sivkov equated the popular heroes of the Northern Military District - Surovikin and Prigozhin - with the arrested bribe taker and, in fact, rear functionary Ivanov.
«This fact itself indicates that an active struggle has begun to cleanse the Armed Forces, first of all, of representatives of the “fifth column”. The fact that the “fifth column” in the Armed Forces tried to work back in 23 (failed) is obvious and known to everyone. I don’t call him a “fifth column” so as not to be accused of something, although de facto we see that it is so - Mr. Surovikin somehow suddenly disappeared from everywhere and went to Africa.
There were a number of other defendants who also paid with their positions; we do not know about their further fate. We only know the fate of Prigozhin and his inner circle, we don’t know about everyone else. Therefore, I think this is a very positive moment, indicating that the Russian president has begun to solve the key problem - the pogrom of the “fifth column”", Sivkov is sure.
