Moscow - Simferopol, March 31 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - A year after Crimea became part of Russia, the Ministry of Defense became the largest owner of real estate on the peninsula that belonged to the Black Sea Fleet and the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Director of the Department of Property Relations (DIO) of the RF Ministry of Defense Dmitry Kurakin told "Kommersant", how much property his department got.

“After Crimea entered the Russian Federation, the DIO sent a large group of specialists, which spent three months conducting an inventory of Ukraine’s military property,” Kurakin said. – This is almost 9 thousand real estate objects, 650 military camps, more than 78 thousand hectares of land. Nobody knew what to do with these structures, to whom they obey, whose orders they carry out. Unknown people broke into the territory of the units and tried to seize technical documentation and fire managers. But the documentation has been preserved. Our commissions visited all sites without exception, provided photographic documentation of their condition, and also drew up maps and diagrams of all military camps.”

“Today, “Sevastopol has already transferred to the Russian Federation, represented by the Ministry of Defense, the ownership of 275 towns and 102 electrical networks - this is the largest energy enterprise, supplying not only Sevastopol and its environs, but also other areas of the peninsula. In the near future, 247 military camps will be transferred to Crimea,” Kurakin said.

The state of almost all assets is “truly appalling,” the official says: “Directors of sanatoriums have repeatedly complained to me that money was not allocated even for the most urgent needs.” Kurakin recalled that “to the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation under Ukraine, all property belonged on a lease basis; it did not own a single square meter of land or a single building,” he explained. “It was impossible to do anything with these assets without approval from Ukraine: neither carry out major repairs nor demolish the dilapidated building.”
