Minsk failed to agree on a truce in Donbass
Special Representative of the OSCE Head Martin Sajdik noted that “despite the obvious interest of the parties in the so-called grain truce, today, unfortunately, they could not come to a common opinion on the text of the joint statement,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Sajdik hopes that at the next meeting of the contact group to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine, which will take place on July 2, the parties to the conflict in Donbass will be able to agree on a ceasefire.
“I hope that we will agree on a truce next time,” he said.
In turn, the press secretary of the representative of Ukraine in the group, Leonid Kuchma, said that the “bread truce” was tasked with preparing the security subgroup.
“The introduction of a silence regime could change the security situation in Donbass for the better, first of all, for civilians who live on both sides of the contact line. However, the escalation that has been observed over the past days is hampering this peace initiative. The security subgroup has been tasked with working on preparations for the so-called “bread” truce,” Daria Olifer wrote on Facebook.
In these conditions, she added, the OSCE SMM “must have reliable and secure access throughout Ukraine in accordance with its mandate.” “The implementation of a block of security issues is the starting point for the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” the press secretary of the Kyiv plenipotentiary emphasized.
