In Minsk they are calling to “thirst” Lithuania and Poland with sanctions of the Union State
Not a single large German or Austrian company will ever leave the Belarusian and Russian markets, despite any sanctions and cries from the Poles and Lithuanians.
Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich stated this during a Moscow-Minsk video conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Sanctions are not imposed because of migrants, not because of what is happening at the border. Sanctions would have been introduced anyway, regardless of what Belarus would have done. What happened throughout this year proves this. The same situation with the plane - without waiting for an investigation, they imposed sanctions. If there were no plane, sanctions would have been imposed for something else. This is the fifth package, the sixth package, the seventh will be the eighth package.
But let’s say one more thing, the first thing is that not a single German or Austrian large company has left the Belarusian-Russian market and will never leave in life,” said Gaidukevich.
According to him, “the fact that Poland and Lithuania are making noise and shouting, shooting themselves in the foot, is one thing, real European politics is another.”
“The same applies to the same Nord Stream 2, which, despite the loud cries of Poland and Lithuania, I am sure will function, and Germany lobbied for this issue because it has enough strength for this.
The fact that Lithuania destroyed the cargo flow through the Klaipeda port made it worse for itself; Belarus has already calmly transferred cargo flows to Russia. The fact that Lithuania is destroying its own economy, spoiling economic relations with Belarus, is making it worse for itself. We calmly sell our products to other markets, and we reoriented ourselves a long time ago.
Belarus is able to respond to any sanctions. Moreover, as a member of the Union Parliament, I am convinced that if Belarus and Russia, within the framework of the Union State, introduce just one real package of sanctions, then the whole of Europe will feel what it is the next day. Because we have more than enough leverage together if we did this,” the Belarusian politician is confident.
At the same time, according to him, even the counter-sanctions of Belarus alone hit some EU countries very hard.
“Let’s, for example, talk frankly about Poland and Lithuania. Who will go to Klaipeda on vacation, except Belarusians and Russians? Come on, no one. Who came to the Polish borderland and bought all the goods that were there... the Germans? No, Belarusians came!
So, during these sanctions, within the Union State, we must make sure that our citizens never go there for shopping, we are able to produce everything ourselves,” Gaidukevich added.
