Maidan, comparable to Kyiv in its best days, is now taking place in Minsk.
At 14.00, opposition supporters began to gather at the “Minsk Hero City” stela.
About four hours later they began moving towards the center of the Belarusian capital.
Most of the protesters are dressed in white, as their leaders called for. Red and white nationalist symbols dominate the crowd.
On the way, the opposition chanted “Lukashenko in the paddy wagon,” “Sasha, you’re fired,” “Sveta is our president.” The nationalist chant “We believe, we can, we can overcome” also sounds.
The crowd reached Independence Square and occupied it entirely. Not all protesters made it in.
Law enforcement officers are not visible on the streets at all.
