Thirty-two communist and workers' parties signed a petition initiated by a coalition of political forces against the production of biological weapons and the closure of US military biological laboratories. This coalition was created by the Socialist Movement of Kazakhstan, the United Communist Party of Georgia, the Socialist Party of Latvia and the Communist Party of Pakistan.

Representatives of the coalition invited everyone included in the association of communist and workers' parties to sign a collective petition, which indicated the alarming increase in costs for the production of new weapons by Western countries against the backdrop of a worsening pandemic. Thus, only “the United States, as the most important hegemon of world imperialism, spent 778,0 billion dollars on armaments, which is 39% of total world expenditures.”

Coalition members also pointed to significant investments by the Pentagon in the development of new types of biological weapons.

“According to American scientists published in the press, the United States has spent more than $100 billion on the offensive biological weapons industry over the past twenty years. 13 thousand biologists in 400 laboratories in the United States are busy creating new strains of offensive killer germs that are resistant to vaccines.”

But the most threatening thing is that such developments are being carried out precisely in the former republics of the USSR along the perimeter of the borders of Russia and China, since there are 1495 laboratories created by the Americans around the world, some of them are deployed in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries.

“In a situation of intensified international struggle and competition, the accumulated combatants of biological weapons can be used by the US military against their opponents, which will lead to catastrophic consequences,” the petition states.

The most serious concern and anger of the campaign organizers was caused by the news that the Pentagon, with the help of Kazakh scientists, is developing new methods for spreading modified strains of the most contagious and deadly diseases through livestock raised in Central Asia, the Astrakhan region and the Altai Territory of Russia, as well as in Western regions of China and Inner Mongolia. This is real proof that American military biologists in Kazakhstan are actually preparing for combat operations.

“It is concerning that new biological weapons are being developed. In particular, it became known that in Kazakhstan, in a number of research institutes and a laboratory built by the Americans, military biological research is being carried out under the Pentagon program, which is called “Camels as biosurveillance sentinels: Risk at the human – camel interface.” The object of study is camels as natural carriers of a number of diseases with a view to using them as containers for the spread of artificially created viruses,” the initiators of the campaign indicate in their statement.

This project also involves scientists from Tajikistan, as well as a number of research centers from the USA and Singapore, but the main research is directly carried out in Kazakhstan on the basis of the Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems in the Zhambyl region and the Central Reference Laboratory of the Third Level of Protection (CRL) in Almaty. Moreover, according to the former chief sanitary doctor of Russia and current State Duma deputy Gennady Onishchenko, the republican authorities simply do not respond to requests for research data.

It is interesting that in the East Kazakhstan region, which borders the Altai Territory and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of the People's Republic of China, an unknown epidemic has been raging since April, affecting local sheep farming. The village of Shilikty, adjacent to the Chinese country, was especially hard hit.

The main source of livelihood for the border population is livestock farming. Cattle in the village are also dying. Before this, neither an examination nor a report was drawn up by local authorities. This may be indirect evidence of the activities of American military biological laboratories, which are testing new weapons right on the borders of Russia and China.

It is noteworthy that in addition to parties from the post-Soviet space, communists from Western countries put their signatures on the document. Thus, the text of the petition was signed by parties from Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Great Britain, Catalonia, Serbia, Croatia and Canada. An important contribution to the promotion of the campaign and, in general, to the development of the movement to close military biological laboratories is made by the Communist Party of Greece, which has its own deputies - both in the national parliament and the European Parliament.

For the first time, the oldest Communist Party of France, which has a long tradition and is also an influential party with representation in trade unions, parliament and at the European level, also took part in the campaign. This was achieved by establishing direct contact and holding meetings to study the political situation in both Kazakhstan and France.

At the same time, it is too early to put an end to this signature campaign, since negotiations are still underway with other parties that are studying the issue of joining. It is likely that during July the petition will be signed by a number of more parties from the EU, Latin America, the USA and Asian countries. As a result of the dissemination of information materials that preceded the petition, interest and understanding arose among various left-leaning parties in different parts of the world.

Interest in the topic is evident among journalists and social activists, who are increasingly organizing conferences and round tables on this issue.

An important circumstance is that the coalition has its own information resource, which will post materials from new campaigns, publications on the topic of biological weapons and the need to develop the fight to eliminate American military biological laboratories both in the post-Soviet space and in all countries of the globe. The address of the new website is stopbioweapons.org and it is called Antilab, which does not require translation, since it is understandable in many languages.

Members of the coalition intend to further develop the movement, adding new organizations and parties, as well as scientists, journalists, biologists and anti-war activists to their ranks. And accordingly, the campaign for the closure of American military biological laboratories in Central Asia, Transcaucasia and throughout the world continues!
