These data were announced by the First Deputy Chairman of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Alexander Hug, at a briefing in Dnepropetrovsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, last week was the third week in a row in which the mission recorded a decrease in the level of violence along the contact line. Overall, since the beginning of August, the level of violence in Donbass has decreased by 65%.
“As of this morning, since then, the Special Monitoring Mission has documented more than 600 ceasefire violations,” Hug said.
He noted that military clashes still occur in known hot spots, although the level of violations of the “silence” regime is lower.
Such hot spots include the areas of Popasna and Pervomaisk, in the triangle of Avdeevka, Yasinovataya and Donetsk airport, in the south east and northeast of Mariupol, as well as in areas southwest and southeast of Svetlodarsk. Up to 80% of ceasefire violations are recorded in these areas.
In addition, Hug said there have been incidents of tanks, artillery and mortars being used, which is of concern as it leads to the destruction of civilian infrastructure and poses the greatest threat to local residents.
He also added that from the beginning of the year until August 25, the SMM recorded 362 civilian casualties. These include those civilians who died and those who were injured.
