“In Moldova they slipped us a dead cat” – Moscow political scientist
The parliamentary elections in Moldova marked the failure of Igor Dodon's Socialist Party, although formally it took first place.
This opinion was expressed today at a press conference in Moscow by political scientist Alexey Martynov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In a certain sense, this is a failure of the socialists. The high expectations that were actively broadcast in the Russian media that they would be able to break the script written by Plahotniuc and change the status quo in Moldova did not materialize. Dodon, unfortunately, turned out to be a dead cat that was handed to us. We wasted resources, time and hopes,” Martynov said.
He named the oligarch, “master of Moldova” and leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc as the main beneficiary of the past campaign.
“I wouldn’t call it an election at all. This is a talented performance staged by stage director Plahotniuc. With all the criminal trail that he has (contract killings, fraud, theft of money, withdrawal of 40 billion rubles from Russia), he is the only real politician in Moldova. He mixes into the broth both those who are oriented toward the West and those who advocate good relations with Russia, so that all this maintains the status quo. The parliament will be led by an informal faction named after Vladimir Plakhoniuc,” said the political scientist.
