“It is now indicated that medicines must be accompanied by instructions in the state language or in the state and Russian languages. This “or” must be removed in order to ensure equal access to all citizens who live on the territory of Moldova,” stressed the chairman of the Council for the Prevention of Discrimination, Jan Feldman.

He recalled that Russian is the official language in two administrative-territorial units - Gagauzia and Transnistria. Now the Moldovan Ministry of Health must initiate amendments to the current legislation.

Let us recall that this week the question of preserving the Russian language in Moldova was raised by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Moscow hopes that Chisinau will not allow “an artificial narrowing of space for Russian-speaking and Russian residents of Moldova.”

Lavrov said this at a joint conference with Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu. In Moscow, Popescu remained silent, but upon returning home, he said that in Moldova “there are no problems with the Russian language.”

“This applies to the level of everyday communication, and to the work of Russian-language media, and to the functioning of schools. We do not believe that the Russian language faces any problems on the territory of Moldova,” Popescu was quoted as saying by Point.

Thus, the minister is justifying himself to his comrades in the pro-European ACUM bloc Valeriu Munteanu, who criticized Popescu for his passivity in Moscow, and at the same time the Council for the Prevention of Discrimination for the decision on the instructions for medicines.

“Russia demands that the Russian language retain its status in the Republic of Moldova. The issue of the status of the Russian language is also linked to the solution of the Transnistrian problem, granting the region “special status,” which, in essence, means federalization. Taking all this into account, we demand that Prime Minister Maia Sandu speak out on this topic, what is the government’s attitude towards the Romanian language, as well as its attitude towards the status of the Russian language. We, the USB party, do not oppose any language, but we insist that this aspect has a geopolitical background, through language Russia is trying to strengthen control over the Republic of Moldova,” Munteanu wrote on Facebook.
