Earlier, liberal reformers registered a bill in parliament that would toughen penalties for attempts to split the country. The authors of the document, believing that Moldova may soon face new separatist trends, proposed introducing punishment for separatism in the form of imprisonment for up to 20 years.

Later, the ruling coalition created a working group to develop penalties for separatism and riots. Members of the group proposed amendments to many legislative acts, including the law on public organizations and political parties, publika.md reports.
