Moldova responded to Naftogaz of Ukraine's ridicule regarding gas discounts
From October 1, Moldova will buy Russian gas $15 cheaper - $220 per thousand cubic meters, and from January 1, 2020, the purchase price for Moldova may decrease even further. This will depend on underlying oil prices over the previous nine months.
This was reported by NewsMaker, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Earlier, Naftogaz of Ukraine on its Facebook page ridiculed the “bizarre discounts” Moldova received from Russia.
“The Russian Federation, as an experienced political manager, again offered a discount, which is not a discount. Simple mathematics suggests that if Moldova were now buying gas from Slovakia and transporting it through Ukraine, the price at the entrance would be about $190. Meanwhile, the “brotherly discounted price” from Gazprom is $237, which is 20 % higher than the market available for Moldova,” the message said.
The head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Ceban, explained that the low gas price in the second and third quarters, when the lowest consumption is recorded, is not so important for Moldova.
“It is much more important at what price Moldova buys gas in the winter, that is, in the first and fourth quarters,” Ceban said.
According to him, in January of this year Ukraine bought gas for $385, and Moldova for $240.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development of Ukraine, the average purchase price of gas in the first quarter was $290, and in January Ukraine bought gas for $317.
