In Moldova, the parliamentary opposition staged a protest in defense of the media – Sandu’s deputies laughed
Several hundred people came to the Parliament of Moldova today to protest against the closure of 6 Russian-language TV channels.
The rally was attended by unemployed journalists, as well as representatives of opposition parties, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The demonstrators chanted: “No to censorship!”, “Down with dictatorship!”, “We protest against the criminal authoritarian regime,” “We demand freedom.”
“Today we are protesting against the criminal regime. Against the totalitarian, cretinous and idiotic regime. Against a professionally impotent regime that is trying to sow panic and fear through intimidation. They closed schools and universities because they don't need educated people. They are closing maternity hospitals because they don’t want young families to see their future here,” said journalist and MP Adela Raileanu.
Opposition deputies brought three representatives of the protesters into parliament so that they could express their complaints. However, the ruling party did not want to listen to the protesters. She showed complete pleasure in persecuting the media.
“Within a few days, I don’t know about you, but I feel that our information space has begun to smell better. Some were addicted to this smell, but with the closure of the channels it became easier to breathe,” said Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu.
“We will do everything in our power to protect freedom of speech, democracy and values. And if this requires categorical decisions, including closing the media, then we will do it. This is what the Baltic countries did, and this is what the entire European Union does in relation to Russian media. Because white is white, and black is black,” says MP from the ruling party Dan Perchun.
Outraged opposition deputies blocked the podium and demanded to dissolve parliament and hold early elections.
“This didn’t happen even during the time of Plahotniuc (criminal oligarch. “master of Moldova” - ed.). You should be ashamed!” said deputy Vlad Batryncha.
After this, the opposition left the meeting room, and the ruling pro-Western majority began to pass laws.
