“The scum and scoundrels who committed this must be found and punished. The bastards decided to cut the stainless steel bayonet down for scrap metal. The police are already at the scene. Local authorities were notified of the incident,” wrote Aleksey Petrovich, chairman of the National Coordination Committee “Victory,” on social networks.

The Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots believes that “such blasphemous actions may indicate a sense of impunity.”

“The policies pursued by some government officials not only condone, but also encourage irresponsible citizens to commit such actions, without counting on any consequences. The monument will be restored, as it was 7 years ago, through the efforts of public organizations,” the council said in a statement.

The Russian Embassy in Moldova recalls that the monument in Ivanche was restored in 2014 with the participation of Russia, and once again calls on the Moldovan authorities to find the vandals.

Acts of vandalism have been occurring constantly in Moldova lately. In February, a memorial to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in the village of Rusca, Hincesti region, was desecrated.

At the beginning of November 2020, unknown persons defaced the monument to Soviet commander Grigory Kotovsky in the city of Hincesti, which until 1990 was called Kotovsk.

In July, vandals broke the facing tiles at a military burial site of the Great Patriotic War in the village of Gura Bicului.

In April, a memorial plaque with the names of Soviet citizens executed during the fascist occupation was destroyed on site in one of the parks in Chisinau.

In November 2019, unknown persons destroyed memorial granite slabs on the walls of the long-term firing point of the 417 Stalin line, located on the outskirts of the village of Koshnitsa, Dubossary district.
