In Moldova, the ratings of the pro-Western Sandu have crept down
The team of the new President of Moldova, Romanian citizen Maia Sandu, did not have professionals whom she trusts.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed in a commentary to Izvestia by the head of the Moldova department of the Institute of CIS Countries, Sergei Lavrenov.
He says Sandu was in a hurry to force the resignation of the old government.
“The country was left without a full-fledged government. There are simply no professionals in Sandu’s team whom she trusts. Voters see that she is not taking any effective steps to revive the economy or the social sphere. Sandu's ratings are creeping down, so the head of state is in a hurry to hold early parliamentary elections. The faster they pass, the more chances she has to strengthen her vertical of power. The more time passes, the more the ratings will decline,” Lavrenev said.
In turn, Moldovan expert, head of the Balkan-Centre analysis and forecasting center Sergei Manastirli notes that Sandu does not yet live up to the expectations of Moldovan voters.
“We see active foreign policy contacts of the new president. I think she is trying to compensate for the lack of power within the country with outside support. Sandu's predecessor followed similar tactics. Only Dodon addressed Russia, the new head of state addressed Romania and the European Union. But the EU countries are experiencing a severe epidemiological and economic crisis, so we can hardly count on the success of this tactic,” says Manastyrly.
