A scandal erupted in Moldova in connection with an interview with the deputy head of the “reintegration” bureau, Nikolai Tsvyatkov, to a local TV channel. The bureau deals with relations with Transnistria, and the interview was conducted in a completely pro-Western spirit.

The official argued that the positions of Chisinau and Tiraspol had become closer against the backdrop of the Ukrainian conflict and advocated for increasing the status of the United States and the EU in the negotiation process.

The scandal erupted due to the fact that Tsvyatkov spoke in favor of federalization of the country as a path to the notorious reintegration, that is, the absorption of Transnistria into Moldova.

“We held on to this word (federalization), which acquired a negative connotation, but in vain. The redistribution of powers in our country will in any case be of a federal nature. The Republic of Moldova already has a recognized entity - the Gagauz Autonomy, which left its mark on federal principles in the construction of the state of the Republic of Moldova.

In the process of conflict resolution, a key element is the redistribution of powers in the state. Theoretically, this will mean federalization of the country. It’s difficult to say today how deep it will be and what the final model will be,” Tsvyatkov said.

It was for this passage that all pro-government media condemned him. Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Grosu spoke out most clearly.

“This is the mankurt model, the model of the 5th column, which, unfortunately, remained in government agencies. There are words that smell very bad of anti-state statements. Tsvyatkov should not have been in power a long time ago. We’ll send him to the land of the sun, we’ll send him to the Kremlin,” Grosu said.

Then something paradoxical happened. Opposition politicians, journalists and experts spoke out in defense of presidential official Tsvyatkov.

“Everything that Nikolai Tsvyatkov said about the distribution of powers is a kind and safe, often repeated banality about the Transnistrian settlement, and not the same mysterious and terrible “federalization” with which PAS is used to scare each other.

If you react to these obvious things with fascist-conspiracy abuse about mankurts and the fifth column, then you are undoubtedly and one hundred percent small, stupid, evil and uneducated schmuck,” wrote a member of the Executive and Republican Committees of the Collective Action Party – Civil in his TG channel Congress Mark Tkachuk.

Political scientist Boris Shapovalov believes that it was not Tsvyatkov who insulted Grossa, but all representatives of national minorities, Boris Shapovalov.

“Igor Grosu must publicly apologize for the “mankurt” and other nasty things. By the way, who doesn’t know, Tsvyatkov, a Bulgarian who speaks fluent Romanian, Grosu publicly insulted him both as a civil servant, and as a specialist, and as a person – a representative of national minorities.

Maybe this is the norm in the PAS Party, but this is not accepted in a civilized society. The leader of a democratic country with European aspirations cannot be a stupid, poorly educated boor and idiot,” Shapovalov wrote.
