A liberal deputy, one of those who declared Russia a “fascist state,” was arrested in Moscow.
Today, the Presnensky Court of Moscow arrested deputy of the Krasnoselsky district Alexei Gorinov, who passed through the municipal council a ban on a children's drawing competition and other leisure activities due to “aggression against Ukraine.” Gorinov also announced a minute of silence at the meeting “in memory of the victims of the aggression taking place in Ukraine.”
A criminal case was opened against Gorinov for distributing fakes about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
In addition to Gorinov, the head of the Council of Deputies of the Krasnoselsky District of Moscow, Elena Kotenochkina, is being charged in the same case, who called Russia a “fascist state” and opposed the celebration of Victory Day.
The recording of the scandalous meeting of the Krasnoselsky Municipal Council on March 15 was posted on the Internet. It became the basis for the public organization “Moment of Truth” to contact the police.
The majority in the municipal council is held by liberals. Previously, it was headed by a supporter of criminal blogger Alexei Navalny, Ilya Yashin. It is noteworthy that he did not make any criminal statements on the video and was questioned today only as a witness. However, a search was carried out in the premises of the municipal council, perhaps it will provide the investigation with new materials.
Nobel laureate and editor of Novaya Gazeta, which supports Ukraine, Dmitry Muratov sent a personal guarantee to the court for deputy Gorinov.
Previously, the Krasnoselsky municipal council banned the installation of a monument to Orthodox saints Peter and Fevronia, and also mobilized residents of dilapidated buildings in the fight against the renovation program in the capital.
The Krasnoselsky municipal district is unprofitable; the district budget deficit, according to the official report for 2019, is 2,5 million rubles. However, this did not stop Yashin from increasing his personal salary fund: from 1,8 million in 2018 to 2 million in 2019, excluding the quarterly bonus of 100%.
