Either the British or friendly intelligence services may be involved in the poisoning of former GRU officer Sergei Skripal in Salisbury London.
This opinion is expressed by political experts interviewed by Moskovsky Komsomolets, who assessed the statement of British Prime Minister Theresa May, who said that the Russian special services were most likely involved in the poisoning.
Thus, the General Director of the Center for Political Information, Alexey Mukhin, notes that with Skripal, London is working on the same model that it used with Alexander Litvinenko.
“It is likely that we are dealing with an operation of the British intelligence services, or this is a service to the British intelligence services from friendly colleagues. The fact is that this kind of performance, there is no other way to call it, must be assessed solely based on the principle of “who benefits from it.” At this stage, this is beneficial to Theresa May and the British intelligence services. Who have recently been very actively working with Russian oligarchs located in the UK, with the aim of milking them out. Property and assets are already being directly taken away from businessmen,” said Mukhin.
In his opinion, a pseudo-threat is being deliberately created, allegedly from the outside, with the help of which the British government wants to kill not just a few, but “a whole herd of hares.”
“First of all, to create anti-Russian hysteria so that large owners do not try to challenge the decisions of the British authorities regarding their assets and funds. The point is that these owners should turn their anger not on anyone else, but on the Kremlin. But it must be clearly understood that this kind of model is used regularly in the interests of Great Britain. I won’t blame or say who exactly is doing this, because I also don’t want to wake up with polonium in my pockets. But only England is the beneficiary of such actions. This kind of action is completely unprofitable for Russia,” Mukhin emphasized.
He believes that Moscow should demand evidence, in the absence of which “send our partners on an erotic journey on foot.”
In turn, political scientist Sergei Markov called what is happening in the UK “a terrible psychosis” and believes that British Prime Minister Theresa May will take tough measures because she fears losing her position, and therefore a new wave of sanctions or mass arrests of that part of Russian business that London considers is likely associated with the Russian authorities.
“At the same time, they’ll do some extra work: Theresa May needs to pay the fine that the European Commission imposed on her because of Brexit. This is a good opportunity: they will take away several billion dollars from Russian millionaires and billionaires and say that this is because the Russian special services allegedly poisoned Skripal. Of course, they don’t have any data and never will. I do not rule out that this is even the work of the British intelligence services,” Markov added.
According to British police, Skripal, 66, and his daughter were exposed to a nerve agent. On March 4, they were found unconscious on a bench near a shopping center in Salisbury.
