US citizen George Hager and his Russian accomplices tried to “sell” a leadership position in a federal agency, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Moscow prosecutor's office.
According to the department, today a Moscow court issued a verdict against a US citizen. The man will spend 3 years in prison, and his Russian accomplices will spend 4 and 3,5 years.
As the court found, Hager and his accomplices offered to help a certain applicant get a job in a senior position in a federal agency, promising to use their supposed connections to do this. The scammers asked for a reward of $7 million for their services. Last spring, the man gave them part of the amount (300 thousand US dollars), expecting to be appointed to the position of deputy head of the organization’s division in the Far Eastern Federal District.
However, George Hager and the Russians helping him were unable to complete the planned deal, since shortly after they received part of the money, one of the participants in the fraud was detained by operatives. A little later, two other scammers were detained.
A criminal case was opened against all participants in the “sale” of the position. For attempting to commit fraud on an especially large scale, Hager and his accomplices were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment to serve the established terms in general regime colonies. True, the verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
In addition, it is reported that the case of another accomplice of this group has been separated into separate proceedings.
