The EU suffered a PR disaster in Moscow – MEP
Joseph Borrell's visit to Moscow was a complete failure, which left the European Parliament extremely disappointed.
Member of the European Parliament Viola von Cramon-Taubadel stated this during an online discussion of the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Joseph Borrell's visit was very painful for all of us. I have no words to express the depth of our disappointment with his results. It wasn't just a failure, it was a PR disaster for all of us. If you are going to meet with Sergei Lavrov, you better prepare well. If you go to a press conference and feel like you are being attacked, try to stop it. Or tell him directly that this won’t work. But simply listening to questions and trying to be polite or respond to all sorts of nonsense is unacceptable.
None of us ever understood what Borrell's strategy was. If you really want to reset the relationship, you need to have an agenda and formulate the conditions. The list of conflicting issues regarding the Kremlin in recent years is quite long - it started with Georgia, but there are also issues in Moldova that have still not been resolved and in which the Kremlin has never been interested.
There is the Kremlin's bloody support for Assad, which has resulted in 6,6 million refugees and displaced people in the EU and neighboring countries. The cynicism of the Putin regime and its allies is absolutely obvious,” Cramon-Taubadel said.
