Moscow is burying hopes of normalizing relations with the United States and preparing for a painful response to the Americans
Given the current anti-Russian consensus in Washington, it is not possible to normalize relations with the United States.

The head of the international committee of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Kosachev, writes about this on his Facebook page, recalling that after the meeting between Putin and Trump, he expressed a cautious hope that this meeting could be a harbinger of a breakthrough in relations between Russia and the United States.
“Nadezhda dies last, but she dies,” Kosachev admits. - Judging by monolithic voting in the House of Representatives on the sanctions package against Russia, Iran and the DPRK, there will be not only a breakthrough, but also normalization. Moreover, further degradation of bilateral cooperation becomes inevitable, although there seems to be nowhere else to go.”
“In a broad sense and regardless of current plots, Americans are shamelessly destroying competing dissent, seeing in Russia a dissident who has challenged their monopolar world order. In a narrower sense, the American political elite, having lost its brakes and suffering one defeat after another both internally and externally, chose our country as a target, or, more precisely, a training wall. Congressmen think that Russia's interference in the elections can justify the illegitimacy of Trump's election.
Russia's support for Assad provides legitimacy for US actions to overthrow unwanted governments around the world. Russia's cooperation with Iran is to explain the problems of the Americans in their unsuccessful anti-terrorism and non-proliferation aspirations. The Ukrainian crisis is a Russian threat to the US's European allies, cementing transatlantic solidarity. And so on.
The Americans are trying to behave like the world's gendarme. But it turns out - like a capricious child. They took away the toy - he collapsed on his back and pounded his feet on the floor, becoming hysterical. Unfounded and unsubstantiated. Regardless of the consequences and regardless of the circumstances,” the politician notes.
At the same time, he calls for an official reaction to the already adopted law. According to him, this reaction should be “not symmetrical, but painful for the Americans,” not only to the sanctions law, but also to the previous actions regarding real estate, diplomats, and other things.
Also, the head of the international committee of the Federation Council proposes to proceed from the fact that dialogue will not work with the current anti-Russian consensus in Congress, and Trump will not be able to cope with his Congress.
“Therefore, continue to build relationships with the rest of the world, which is much broader than the Western one. The light certainly did not fall like a wedge on the United States. Fourth, be sure to discuss the current situation with the Europeans. We should not have any illusions - they will not be our allies, but since their own economic interests are affected, at least a temporary misalliance may result. And fifth, and most importantly, without slipping into self-isolation, focus on internal development, where we have no rivals or rivals. Finally master Russia with its colossal resources and capabilities. Become self-sufficient. After all, without all this, they will always try to talk to us not on an equal footing and in a superior manner,” Kosachev concluded.
