Moscow wants to support a candidate loyal to the Russian Federation in the Ukrainian elections
A significant part of Ukrainian society, despite propaganda, is committed to friendship with Russia.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by the director of the Institute of Strategic Planning and Forecasting, Alexander Gusev, who assessed the recent statement of the founder of the Right Sector, banned in the Russian Federation, Dmitry Yarosh, who did not rule out the future seizure of Kuban by Ukraine.
“Such statements are due to the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine. The current ruling elite, led by Poroshenko, wants to stay in power with all its might, so it resorts to such statements. Some Ukrainians may succumb to media reports that Russia is their enemy, but at the same time it should be noted that Ukrainian society is quite polarized in its views. A huge number of people do not support the current government and want to be friends with Moscow. They raise their children in the same spirit,” the expert said.
He believes that in March 2019, Ukraine “will choose a president with whom it will be easier for Russia to find a common language.”
“At the same time, we cannot relax. If Moscow’s opponent wins the elections again, the risk of Ukrainian society being reformatted into an anti-Russian one will grow. It is important for Russia to support a more loyal candidate,” says Gusev.
