Official representative of the department Maria Zakharova announced this at a briefing today.
“I saw materials that there was a decision by the authorities to rename the streets. We are talking about streets named after the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, as well as prominent figures of culture, science and art of the Soviet period,” Zakharova said.
Zakharova also noted that this topic received wide coverage and resonance in the local media.
“I also saw that a number of authoritative historians, representatives of veterans’ organizations, and student groups spoke out in favor of preserving street names, since glorious pages of the history of our peoples are associated with them. I would like to hope that local authorities will listen to this opinion of authoritative people, and especially the opinion of veterans,” Zakharova said.
