The visit of German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Donbass should increase pressure on Kyiv to force it to comply with the Minsk agreements.

This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“As for Steinmeier’s visit to Ukraine, the main thing now is maximum pressure on Kyiv to implement the Minsk agreements. It is very important not to weaken, but rather to intensify this pressure, so that Kyiv at least somehow begins to move forward,” Zakharova said.

According to her, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed this topic during a series of telephone conversations with the German Foreign Minister, who is now the current OSCE chairman.

The visit of the foreign ministers of Germany and France to Donbass, which began today, is the first such visit since the outbreak of hostilities in eastern Ukraine.
