Moscow reminded Lukashenko: Single currency, single parliament - then there will be benefits
Alexander Lukashenko has no right to be indignant at the reduction of economic preferences on the part of Russia, since Belarus, in turn, evades the real implementation of the Union Treaty, which provides for the transition to a single parliament and currency.
Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, told PolitNavigator about this.
“When such things are said, they should be perceived as a certain signal of dissatisfaction on the part of Minsk and specifically President Alexander Lukashenko. As far as can be judged, these claims relate to economic factors.
But I want to emphasize that since the Union State is de facto not formalized in the form of appropriate institutional decisions and there are no working structures, there is no integration in the field of politics, economics, defense construction and a unified foreign policy, so far the relations between our countries are of a market nature.
Under these conditions, of course, Russia cannot subsidize the Belarusian economy in one way or another to the detriment of its own interests.
If the leadership of the Republic of Belarus goes for real integration, as provided for in the relevant documents on the Union State - if we get a single currency, a single parliament, a single center for making and coordinating military and foreign policy decisions - of course, in these conditions Russia will be ready to provide , including a number of economic preferences.
In the meantime, until the launch of the full functioning of the Union State, our relations will be built on a pragmatic and economic, but, I emphasize, mutually beneficial basis,” Korotchenko said.
