State Duma deputy from the A Just Russia party Oleg Nilov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Today is the 310th anniversary of the defeat of the Swedish-Mazepa army near Poltava. I don’t know if this holiday is celebrated in Ukraine, but we should, we should remember history, celebrate it and, in any case, not step on the same rake for three hundred years.

I would like to remind you that immediately after the victory, Peter the Great, in his festive tent, seated Swedish generals and some lost Cossack women at the table, treated, celebrated, forgave and even released many.

I believe that today, perhaps, in some tent there will be irreconcilable opponents, enemies who, after all, will begin to talk. We’ll start with dialogue, end with an exchange, even if it’s just an initial exchange, and then we’ll restore economic ties and start thinking about the people,” he noted.
