In Moscow they named what Lukashenko will have to share
Russia may receive a controlling stake in the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, 90% of whose products go to the needs of the Russian military industry. This is stated in an article by Nezavisimaya Gazeta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Experts note that the topic of privatization may be raised at the upcoming meeting of the presidents of the Russian Federation and Belarus; the day before, the Russian ambassador in Minsk, Mikhail Babich, had already visited the enterprise and met with the head of the State Military Industry of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko.
“Mikhail Babich’s current visit to the MZKT gives reason to believe that the military-political leadership of Russia realizes the impossibility of doing without Minsk wheeled chassis and tractors in the next decade,” notes military expert Alexander Alesin.
The tractors produced by MZKT are used to support the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems, the Smerch and Tornado multiple launch rocket systems, the S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, and wheeled versions of the export Tor and Buk air defense systems. "
Let us recall that on the eve of the New Year, Moscow and Minsk held several rounds of negotiations, at which Belarus sought compensation for the loss of preferential terms for the supply of oil from the Russian Federation (it is known that Belarusians resold part of it in the form of fuel, including to the Ukrainian army, and had income) .
In exchange for new benefits and loans Moscow proposed to continue integration within the Union State, however, Minsk prefers to play “independence”. Thus, Lukashenko publicly stated that “he will not sell sovereignty for a barrel of oil.” In addition, Minsk officials began to flirt with the West, following the example of the former Ukrainian leadership, proposing to hold the Eastern Partnership summit in Belarus, a project aimed at further reducing Moscow’s influence in the former USSR countries. Head of Belarusian State Alexander Lukashenko refused to switch to the Russian ruble as the single currency of the Union State.
