Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev said this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, answering the question of how to evaluate the facts indicating that Europeans look with indifference at compatriots joining the ranks of Ukrainian nationalist battalions.
“Europe is not only indifferent to the formation of nationalist groups in Ukraine, but also does not condemn the criminal offenses committed by Ukrainian neo-Nazis. The arson and shooting of people in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, the murder of journalists and politicians in Kiev, threats against veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the outrages of radicals against everything that is somehow connected with Russian or Russian - remain unpunished. And this is no coincidence. Neo-Nazi ideas are being revived in Europe. According to available data, there are more than 500 neo-Nazi and national radical groups (often youth groups) in the European Union. They include more than 7 million people,” noted the Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
According to him, a serious spread of neo-Nazi ideas is observed not only in Ukraine, but also in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, where the actions of the authorities contribute to the growth of Russophobia, anti-Semitism and neo-Nazism.
“In a number of European countries, with the support or connivance of the authorities, neo-Nazi marches and torchlight processions are being held with the demonstrative use of Nazi symbols. Honors are given to Nazi criminals, and solemn burial ceremonies are held. Memorials to SS legionnaires are being erected, including on the site of destroyed monuments to Soviet liberator soldiers. Nationalist structures are creating mobile combat units that can be used to organize actions of civil disobedience and mass unrest both in their own countries and abroad,” Patrushev noted. “It seems that Europe has forgotten the horrors of World War II.”
