Political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on the “Evening” talk show, noting that even in the Ukrainian period such an organization did not officially exist.
“We cannot authorize the Majlis because it has never been registered either in Russia or Ukraine. It simply does not exist legally. Therefore, yes, it was a sop to the Ukrainian side to make it clear that this is an absolutely empty question that cannot be resolved in any way. We could resolve what already happened. The Mejlis was not registered in Russia, and was not registered in Ukraine; in Crimea, as an autonomous republic within Ukraine, it was also never registered, so it is impossible to restore it,” Mikheev said.
Let us note that even after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine did not register the Mejlis as an organization.
“The Mejlis is not registered as an organization at all with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. That is, there is nothing to restore. The Mejlis is a group of people who called themselves that, and not even a public organization or a political party. Therefore, this court decision can be applied to the wound like a plantain,” commented on the situation after the decision of the International Court of Justice of the Verkhovna Rada, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Evgeniy Muraev.
