In Moscow they explained why Sandu is shaking the air in vain
Russian peacekeepers have the right to remain in Transnistria until a final agreement is signed to resolve the conflict between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
In addition, Russia does not have to withdraw its peacekeepers - most of them have Transnistrian passports, and if the decision to withdraw is made, they only need to change the stripes on their uniforms in order to remain serving in the PMR.
Vladimir Zharikhin, deputy head of the Institute of CIS Countries, stated this on the Internet channel “International Life,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our military personnel in Transnistria have two statuses. One status is that of peacekeepers... They are there until the moment when a peace agreement on the reintegration of Moldova and Transnistria is finally reached. This hasn't happened yet.
Secondly, these are our military personnel, no longer peacekeepers, but simply our military personnel who guard the weapons base, the huge weapons base of the entire Western District of the Soviet Union, which is located in Kolbasnaya... And they must be protected so that they do not fall to the radicals. And now Ukraine is preventing the export of these weapons, because we only exported them through Ukraine. They don’t allow it, and you can’t transport these tens of thousands of tons on planes. Therefore, until this problem is solved, they will remain there...
There is also such a point - due to the fact that over the years it has been practically impossible to carry out the rotation of our military personnel in these peacekeeping forces through Ukraine, the rotation was carried out only by senior command personnel through Chisinau by plane, practically the residents of Transnistria, who have Russian passports.
Therefore, if Sandu insists so sharply and demands the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers, then these people simply may not even change their uniforms, but change their stripes to the National Guard of Transnistria. Because they, indeed, have Transnistrian passports,” said Zharikhin.
