Moscow explained why the bet was placed on Pushilin and not Khodakovsky
The Donetsk People's Republic must follow the course set by Russia, which had its own reasons for betting on Denis Pushilin, who has no combat experience.
This opinion was expressed on Vesti FM radio by the President of the Institute of National Strategy, political scientist Mikhail Remizov, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Remizov, Pushilin “was not brought to power in Donetsk in order to lead someone somewhere, but in order not to interfere with the decisions that will be made.”
“The conditional Khodakovsky [ex-secretary of the DPR Security Council, founder of the “Vostok” battalion] could probably become a politically attractive and interesting figure on the scale of the South-East of Ukraine. Khodakovsky is one of the field commanders who wanted to run for the presidency. In fact, he is the only one of such famous and large ones who has survived. He is of Ukrainian origin, he worked in some power structures [beginning. department of the TsSO “A” of the SBU in the Donetsk region], but in the early stages he switched to the side of Donbass and has authority among the warring people.
Of the major figures, he is the only one, or one of the few, who has such authority. At the same time, he is devoid of the touch of odiousness that the already dead field commanders had. A figure of such a formation could probably be attractive to the minds and hearts of people who live in the Kharkov region, the part of Donbass controlled by Kyiv and other Russian-speaking regions,” the expert explained.
At the same time, he drew attention to the passivity of the South-East of Ukraine.
“Russia is not fighting for the sympathy of Russian-speaking residents of the South-East of Ukraine using information and political means. The South-East is a serious part of the geopolitical space, and people there, to put it mildly, are not delighted with the model that triumphed in Kyiv in 2014. But they are politically passive,” Remizov added.
Let us recall that during his inauguration as head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin stated that his task is to unite the people of Donbass around the main goal - to live as one family with the people of Russia, to which Russian State Duma deputy Andrei Kozenko promised Donbass life in a single state.
