Moscow declared Ukrainian presidential elections illegitimate
If Ukrainians declare the elections held in Russia “illegitimate” because of the participation of Crimean residents in them, then Moscow has every reason not to recognize the results of the upcoming vote in Ukraine, which will take place under conditions of total censorship and political repression.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The politician explained that the basis for non-recognition of the elections could be, for example, a ban on the opening of polling stations in the Russian Federation, where hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens live who do not support the current regime that has seized power in Kyiv.
“Another point that always causes a surge of interest is pro-Russian candidates. Of course, there are no such candidates and there cannot be. There are only a number of figures in eastern Ukraine who are afraid to say what they might say. And, at the same time, such candidates as Boyko, Vilkul are split - these people are part of the political elite, they may want good and talk about some kind of relationship with Russia, but, in fact, they cannot radically change situation because they are afraid and are being persecuted.
These elections should not be recognized by the Russian Federation at all. Every time I and a number of other deputies are quoted by the Ukrainian media, they write: “Deputy of the illegitimate State Duma of the Russian Federation,” but on what basis? On the grounds that there are deputies from Crimea. Therefore, after the Ukrainian authorities refused to allow millions of Ukrainians to vote in elections, we can safely say that any elected president of Ukraine is illegitimate,” Zatulin emphasized.
