Recognition of the presidential elections in Ukraine and Russia’s congratulations to Vladimir Zelensky on his victory are meaningless until it becomes clear how wealthy the comedian and showman will be as head of state. Moreover, if Zelensky cannot cope with threats from the corrupt elite and follows their lead.
The deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, deputy Konstantin Zatulin and Russian liberal political scientist Sergei Stankevich said this on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Of course, Zelensky will be “for everything good against everything bad,” but he will determine what is good by measuring the temperature of the environment, which, again, did not descend from somewhere on Mars, but grew up in this country, in this political elite. That is, involuntarily, the person who came to replace this elite and who became a symbol of the fact that this is exactly what voters want, he is not able to do this, because there are those people around who represent this elite,” Konstantin Zatulin noted during the discussion.
“What will happen now: naturally, that part of Poroshenko’s entourage that has some chance, and that part of the Ukrainian elite (even if not Poroshenko’s friends, because voters rejected not Poroshenko, but the entire elite) will try to somehow fit in, defect... And the second part, for whom the crimes of the past or their position do not allow maneuver, they will prove to Zelensky that nothing happened, guy, you have no authority.
And they will have great chances for this, because you can neither hang a Muscovite nor kill a Jew, because the Prosecutor General does not want to leave, and in order for him to leave, the Verkhovna Rada, whose deputies Zelensky has no deputies, must vote for. The Prime Minister may not want to leave - you have the right to nominate a candidate, but first you need to fire him, and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada can fire you. So what have we won? This is what Zelensky will constantly be dunked into, and voters will naturally be disappointed,” the deputy added.
At the same time, Sergei Stankevich recalled how, in the first hours after the announcement of the exit polls, Zelensky said that he was tired and went to drink champagne, and Poroshenko, who had just lost the elections with a completely devastating score, made a “winner’s speech” from the podium.
“Yes, he (Poroshenko - ed.) says, arithmetically, indeed, my opponent won, I recognize this arithmetic, but I don’t recognize anything more than arithmetic. Then he glorifies his achievements, the very ones that led him to defeat, he simply reads a panegyric for himself and says that this is all that was my achievements, I will never, ever, ever give it to anyone. We will now go to the Verkhovna Rada and will not allow it. You think that you have defeated someone - no, we will not allow anyone to touch my achievements, which you opposed.
That is, in fact, he is challenging the newly victorious president. And if this newly victorious president does not hear this challenge, does not understand what kind of challenge was thrown at him, and does not find an adequate answer, then, perhaps, we really do not need to rush anywhere (with the recognition of the elections - ed.) " , - said Stankevich.
