Moscow raised the issue of transferring all maritime cargo transportation in the country under the Russian flag
Today, only 2% of all natural resources extracted in the country are transported under the Russian flag.
Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Andrei Kutepov announced this at a round table on issues of interdepartmental interaction to create conditions for increasing the competitiveness of the Russian shipbuilding industry in the global economy, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The most important task is to ensure the so-called convenience of the flag. Today, only 2% of all natural resources mined in the country are transported under the Russian flag. Assigning cabotage to the national fleet means not only reserving a cargo base for our companies, but also jobs for Russian sailors.
These, again, are taxes to the regional budgets. By paying for services to foreign charterers, we give away – I won’t give figures – a colossal amount of money. The cost of freight for Russian ships or ships flying the Russian flag is simply higher. Why is it taking so long to resolve the issue? What is the reason for the redundancy of norms? We need a regulatory guillotine,” Andrey Kutepov.
