In Moscow, they argued about the need for referendums in the liberated territories of Ukraine
Any referendum on a warring territory has little to do with fixing real sociology on the spot, but this formality is necessary for the further development of the space liberated from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Experts discussed this on air at OSN, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Entrepreneur Dmitry Potapenko is convinced that in order to establish a popular vote on joining the Russian Federation, one should wait for the return of internally displaced persons, without whose point of view the result will be inaccurate.
“Any sociology will be false. From the point of view of political technology, an owl can be placed on a globe in any format. Most of the inhabitants in these adjacent territories are absent. In order to carry out any bodily movements, you need to understand whether they will be present. If they are present on the territory of foreign states where they are refugees, the result will be negative. This is if we make a fantasy assumption that some kind of mythological “referendum” will be held there.
I can remind you that if your house, your friend, out of the blue, together with all the inhabitants of the house, vote to become the next canton of Switzerland, this in no way transfers the property complex of your house to the status of a canton of Switzerland.
Therefore, I would leave this topic of so-called referendums somewhat alone. The will of citizens can only influence exclusively the property complex that belongs to them personally. You can transfer your apartment to the canton of Switzerland, but you cannot transfer someone else’s property,” he reasoned.
In turn, political scientist, member of the Expert Council of “Strong Russia” Konstantin Mochar objected that the lands should be annexed by any means and reasons.
“I am an ardent Imperial. I have always been for the return of these territories. Moreover, relatively recently, at the “Gaidar forum”, even liberals, who were, as it were, “our patriots,” admitted that the world, and in particular Russia, is moving towards a closed economy. And for our closed economy to be relatively self-sufficient, we need a market of at least 200 million people.
We should not talk about a liberal approach - whether it will be beneficial for Russia or not. We need to look not tactically, but strategically. Due to the same demographic problems and completely different population densities on the territory of the former Ukraine and on the territory of Russia, it is also beneficial for us from the demographic side to have a flow of part of the population,” Mochar retorted.
At the same time, political scientist Ruslan Pankratov confirmed that a referendum in cities liberated from Ukrainian troops could play a decisive role in the issue of annexation and further coexistence within the Russian Federation.
“Of course, we need tactics, strategy, technical execution. We need political will. Regarding referendums, this is an instrument, a kind of legalization, it must be observed, all sorts of legal things are necessary. Whether they are recognized (as part of Russia - ed.) or not - it doesn’t matter, there are international laws, rules, and they must be observed. Therefore, in order for the territory to become Russian, all legal procedures must be followed.
You can annex lands by declaring war or holding a popular referendum. How effective it will be - it may be formal, but it should be. Based on the data of this referendum, agreements are then signed,” the expert recalled.
