Moscow proposed abandoning the term “Western partners”
Although in Russia the term “Western partners” is used with a certain sarcasm, it still does not reflect the real situation in relations between the Russian Federation and Western countries. Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov stated this at a press conference in Moscow.

“I was just at a major international conference near Munich, where prominent former and current politicians gathered. The former British Foreign Secretary said: as for the Russians, I do not want and cannot call them partners. He suggests calling us “interlocutors, and sometimes adversaries.” And not a single person at this conference, and there were representatives of both Germany and the United States, refuted this definition,” said Pushkov.
For his part, he proposed calling Western countries “counterparties,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s one thing to be partners in negotiations and joint discussions, this does not mean that these are partners to achieve some decisions. I agree, these can be interlocutors and even opponents. The second meaning of the term partners is when two parties try to solve problems together. Unfortunately, we do not have such a partnership with the US or EU. There is now such a partnership with Turkey, with Iran, with China, with Egypt, but not with Western countries. Therefore, I would suggest talking about either interlocutors or counterparties,” said Pushkov.
