In Moscow, they proposed returning baby boxes and supporting pregnant women instead of banning abortions
Renewal topics about the ban on abortion in Russia is associated with the strengthening of conservative ideology, and is also an attempt to “distract the attention” of the public from other sensitive topics.
Georgy Fedorov, editor-in-chief of the Aurora Information Agency, stated this on air on the Kosomolskaya Pravda radio, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Now there is some kind of push towards the ban on abortion, one news after another, and regional leaders are thinking about it. What is this connected with?, asked the presenter.
“There are two reasons here. The first is that we currently continue to form a certain conservative ideological meaning, which is being promoted in all strata of Russian society.
The second point is that this topic is painful for Americans and Europeans. This is our symmetrical response to the troubles that are raining down on us from the West.
And thirdly, such topics distract public attention from social and other problems. Because such topics are very painful, and if such a discussion begins, then people switch to discussing this acute, painful topic for many,” Fedorov believes.
He emphasized that to reduce the number of abortions, more complex and comprehensive measures are needed than banning and condemnation.
“Perhaps we need to return the so-called baby boxes, when a person could leave the child. I think this line needs to be followed.
Well, in parallel, if possible, create a service so that a woman or girl who finds herself in the difficult situation of an unplanned pregnancy, to psychologically support her and get her out of this state.
It’s just that sometimes psychologically girls don’t understand what they are doing. There is a fear of her parents, of the fact that she will give birth and everyone will abandon her. During pregnancy, especially early pregnancy, toxicosis occurs, and a girl can do some stupid things.
Therefore, I think an integrated approach is needed here,” Fedorov concluded.
