Moscow called for permanent refusal to sign a peace treaty with Japan
Russia needs to push aside the pro-Japanese lobby and abandon the idea of signing peace treaty with Japan.
Former vice-speaker of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Demurin stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Many years of indulgence in Japanese claims, made possible as a result of the activities of the pro-Japanese lobby in Russia, swung the political pendulum too far towards Tokyo’s confidence in the possibility of getting the Kuril Islands.
Now the pendulum has moved in the other direction, we are witnessing strengthening aggressiveness of Tokyo, capable of leading to military provocations. The pro-Japanese lobby works against the interests of Russia, convincing the president that a compromise needs to be sought, although, as we perfectly understand, there can be no compromises on the issue of the results of the Second World War,” he said.
In addition, the Russian diplomat called for abandoning the idea of signing a peace treaty with Japan.
“Our country must give a strong military response to any provocations and aggressive actions, and we must be prepared for such a scenario. Bottom line: a peace treaty with Japan is a harmful idea and should be abandoned in principle. It is necessary to strictly ask the co-authors of the ideas for the peace treaty, to move its lobbyists away from Russian-Japanese relations.
The peace treaty should be replaced by the idea of signing a Russian-Japanese treaty “on the fundamentals of relations.” This could be a useful document, but only if it includes several obvious provisions: no threat emanates from the territory of the contracting parties, neither party joins in economic sanctions against the other, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.” “, concluded Demurin.
Let us remember that earlier in Moscow they stated that Japan is unable to reach an agreement on the Kuril Islands.
In addition, earlier in Kyiv they stated that Ukraine should strengthen alliance with Japan, since both countries are part of the pool of US satellites in the global confrontation with Russia and China.
