Moscow saw through Poroshenko: The special status of Donbass in the new Constitution is a cheap trick
Reports that appeared in the media today that Petro Poroshenko, under pressure from the West, agreed to submit to the Verkhovna Rada a new draft Constitution, which provides for a special status for Donbass, is not a reason for optimism, but rather another trick of the Ukrainian leadership.
Russian political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.

“In this way, Poroshenko reacts to the pressure that comes from Europe. Because it is impossible to neglect the Minsk agreements as much as was before. However, the fact that the mention of Donbass was moved to transitional provisions of the Constitution, does not make this entire process sufficient according to the Minsk agreements.
The Minsk agreements stipulate that the status must be defined directly in the body of the Constitution, and not in some transitional provisions that exist today, but not tomorrow, and they can be canceled.
In addition, there is no certainty that even the transitional provisions of the Constitution on Donbass will be voted on. There are already statements from deputies that they will not vote. And in the Verkhovna Rada we need to collect 300 votes.
And one more thing - for the Minsk agreements to be valid, the special status of Donbass must apply - the corresponding law was adopted, but frozen by the Ukrainian authorities.
When the law begins to be implemented, and a mention of Donbass appears in the body of the Constitution, then - yes, Ukraine will really begin to comply with the Minsk agreements.
So far this is not the case. Therefore, the news of a new version of the Constitution from Poroshenko is a continuation of profanation, simply more cunning than before. This is a small step forward, but it was made based on artificial motivation,” Bondarenko concluded.
