The imam of one of the capital's mosques was detained in Moscow and charged with justifying terrorism.
Employees of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow carried out operational search activities against the imam of one of the capital’s mosques.

“As a result of the activities, information was received about the man’s involvement in justifying the activities of a terrorist organization. Based on this fact, the Main Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the city of Moscow opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Public calls for terrorist activities or public justification of terrorism. Searches were carried out at the imam’s registration address and place of work, as a result of which literature included in the list of prohibited extremist materials was confiscated,” the message says.
The press service clarified that the suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 91 Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.
