The rally in Kyiv gathered about thirty people. They held posters with the slogans “Freedom for Timofey Nagorny” and “Shoulder to shoulder with Nagorny.” Among those gathered were the detainee's wife, his friends and associates, in particular, singer Vitaly Kozlovsky.
“The last time we talked to him was on the 20th, before the Peace March,” said Timofey’s wife Renata, who was present at the rally. “After the march, contact with him was lost. Then information began to appear on social networks that he was arrested, that there was a trial on the 22nd, and he was detained for five days. I didn't have any more information.
He came to Moscow with a call for peace. He said that we are one people and must support each other and unite.”
“We turned to various acquaintances of Timofey in Moscow to find out where he is, but it’s like boiling water on everyone,” says Timofey’s friend Andrey Lapenyuk. - Nobody knows anything. Unfortunately, the attitude towards the Ukrainian people and those who chanted “We want peace” is very inadequate. They don’t like us there and don’t wait for us, and wouldn’t want to see us with a peaceful message.
Nagorny is a non-conflict person, a man of peace. Somewhere in the Russian media there was information that he did not want to obey the authorities, but this is not true. I know him. We hope that the Russian authorities will release Timofey, and we will hold a peace march with him here in Kyiv on October 4.”
“It is believed that Timofey was detained because he was wearing an embroidered shirt. Let’s invite the Russian Embassy to go to work naked, maybe we are also not satisfied with their clothes, since you think that our national clothes do not suit us,” suggested Timofey’s comrade-in-arms in the “Shoulder to Shoulder” movement.
Other protesters did not agree with this proposal. “We have gathered here not to protest against Russia, but to support Timofey,” his wife said.
“We are for peace,” added Andrei Lapenyuk. “Probably Timofey was detained because they don’t like peace, but we wear our own clothes and carry our own flags.” But we don't judge anyone. We ask that Timofey be released so that he will not be tortured. We hope that they will not go further than what they do with others, for example, with Nadezhda Savchenko.”
“Timofey is a member of the Coordination Council for the restoration of Ukrainian statehood in the Donbass and Crimea,” said council commissioner Mikhail Volynets. – he held the last meeting on coordinating the volunteer movement and helping people who are suffering today in Donbass. He does a lot of work in this direction and, apparently, someone does not like it. He also held a series of events to achieve peace in Ukraine and abroad. This probably offended someone there, in Moscow, who decided to arrest him, punish him, and use his example to show others that such actions are punishable.”
“I was shocked by the news about Timofey’s arrest during the Peace March,” said the President of the Ukrainian Kettlebell Lifting Federation, President of the International Kettlebell Lifting Federation Yuriy Shcherbina. “We have known him for a long time from the performances he organized. There have been many such actions, for example, recently there was an action during the celebration of Athlete’s Day on Sophia Square. A peace rally also took place in Moscow. As the president of the federation, I cannot say that sport is outside of politics. Many athletes, including those from our federation, take part in ATO and military operations.
It is clear that Timofey was arrested unjustly and should be released immediately. This is a violation of international agreements and it is simply not human. It’s unfair when people who advocate peace are arrested.”
