Moscow said that Ukraine and the United States flew over the European energy market
Germany offered Ukraine a trilateral agreement capable of ensuring the stability and reliability of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, but Kyiv refused.
Russian political scientist Nikolai Platoshkin stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Before 2004, before the first Maidan, before the second, before Crimea, German Chancellor Schröder made a proposal to Ukraine for a triple consortium to manage the gas transportation system, in which you, together with Germany, would have a majority of shares. Russia has 47%, the Germans have 5%, and you have the rest. Moreover, the consortium should have been just in order to keep your unfortunate pipe in working condition. You rejected this, after which the Germans and I began to think about Nord Stream 1, which, again, existed before the Maidans, Crimea and everything else,” the expert noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that the Americans, who have their own interests in the European energy market, have already tried all available ways to prevent the supply of Russian gas to Europe.
“What could the Americans do? Now, unfortunately, nothing. They had three options. The first is to prevent European countries from giving us permission to sail by sea. All permissions have been received. The second option is not to give us something without which we cannot build. For example, in 1983 they forced Germany to refuse to supply compressors for our stations because they were under American licenses. We made them in a month.
And the third option that could work for them is if European investors had interests in the American market. They could have been crushed. None of those who finance Nord Stream 2 supplies anything to America. And we buy pipes from Sweden, because if you look at the geography, it’s simply cheaper there,” concluded Platoshkin.
