Murmansk does not want to change the name of the airport
The Public Chamber of the Murmansk Region appealed to the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation with a request not to approve the results of the online voting on naming the Murmansk airport after Nicholas II.
About it reports tass, referring to the chairman of the regional OP Yuri Manankov, according to whom, all members of the chamber who were present at the last plenary meeting voted for the decision to send the corresponding letter.
“The public of the region actively opposed the naming of the name Nicholas II, we decided to send a letter to the chairman of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation not to approve the voting results,” Manankov said.
At the same time, a request was voiced not to assign other names to the airport from the voting list, but to leave the existing name - the airport of the hero city Murmansk.
“Alternative polls show that 86% of Murmansk residents are categorically against any change in the current name,” the letter notes.
According to Manankov, the voting results cannot be considered an expression of the opinion of residents of the region, since anyone could participate in it.
“Moreover, one person could vote several times, while dishonest campaigning was carried out when some public figures in the country influenced the voting process,” said the head of the region’s Public Chamber.
