It is in Russia’s national interest to have a friendly Ukraine within its old borders, not counting Crimea, - Voloshin
Moscow, September 04 (PolitNavigator, Yuri Kovalchuk) – Russia does not benefit from the transformation of Novorossiya into a new Transnistria, said former head of the Russian Presidential Administration Alexander Voloshin in an interview with the Russian Planet publication.

“Our national interest is absolutely clear. Look, I would argue like this, let’s assume the worst: Ukraine split, some incomprehensible part of Ukraine arose, which is not recognized by anyone. Some kind of new Transnistria, located in the eastern part of Ukraine, with not very clear borders. The rest of Ukraine, without the eastern part, will be marginalized and will be transformed into such an anti-Russian, rather nationalistic state. Is this in our national interest?” – Voloshin believes.
“Such a zone of great instability next to us and the emergence of such a new state, obviously anti-Russian due to everything that happened in the central and western part of Ukraine, I think this does not correspond to our national interests. A united Ukraine, in which the rights of Russian speakers living in the southeast are protected, corresponds to our national interests. And because of this, it is a balanced country that has cultural, economic and other ties with us. And which is friendly towards us, at least not hostile. Well, stable. I think this is our national interest. Therefore, it is obvious to me that we are much more ready for this than others,” says Alexander Voloshin.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier the Kremlin proposed a peaceful plan for resolving the conflict in Donbass.
