Explaining the lack of progress in the case, he said the crime was “committed by people who prepared very carefully for it and reduced their mistakes as much as possible.”

At the same time, the head of the National Police admitted that these people are in the video recordings available to the investigation, and also said that an entire department of the SBU is working with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to solve the case.

“According to court materials, the police asked for access to telephone calls made from the location of the Azov regiment base. Does this mean that the police are considering the version of the involvement of National Guard soldiers in the murder?” the journalists asked.

“Including,” Knyazev answered briefly.

He was also asked where people’s deputy Anton Gerashchenko had access to the case materials, who stated that he was allegedly they were preparing an assassination attempt, which has much in common with the Sheremet case.

“Anton Gerashchenko is a politician. He has the right to express his thoughts, versions and the like. I guarantee that he does not have access to the investigation materials. At the time of the last press conference on this case, he had not even been questioned as a witness,” said the head of the National Police.

Knyazev clarified whether Gerashchenko is serving as a witness.

“We interrogate many people, collecting some microscopic details. But there is also a version of the murder that is not 100 percent criminal - in it you have to collect information bit by bit,” the law enforcement officer answered evasively, without explaining how a car bombing in the center of the capital may not be entirely criminal.

At the same time, the head of the National Police said that he is not responsible for politicians close to the Minister of Internal Affairs Zoryana Shkiryak and Anton Gerashchenko, who actively comment on the progress of the investigation.

“Since February 8, 2017, the police have been headed by Sergei Knyazev. From now on, all questions related to the police should be addressed to me. The minister has several employees like me: the chairman of the National Guard, the chairman of the Border Service, the head of the migration department. There are some speakers, moderators - some political figures, and their actions are not a question for me...,” Knyazev emphasized.

As PolitNavigator reported, journalist and citizen of the Russian Federation Pavel Sheremet was blown up in the center of Kyiv in the car in which he was driving to take part in a program on Radio Vesti.
